Berkshire Battalion News Release
NORTH ADAMS, MA - The Berkshire Battalion, proud members of the Federal Hockey League are pleased to announce the naming of their Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations - Massachusetts native - Dan Farrell.
Dan was raised in southern Maine and following high school, he relocated to southeastern Massachusetts in the mid 1990's, becoming involved in coaching with local collegiate development teams, including the Walpole stars (EJHL) and Bridgewater Bandits (EJHL).
While he distinguished himself in his commitment to player development, he is best known in the hockey community as the innovator and founder of Farrell Sports Concepts, whose distinctive cubic designs of protective equipment have been worn by professional athletes from the Super Bowl to the Stanley Cup.
In the late 1990's, Dan designed the patented cubic matrix protective technology from insights from his own on-ice experiences and consultation with athletes who identified weaknesses in Mass-market equipment designs. In 2001, the design launched Farrell Sports into a player-focused custom equipment manufacturer. Athletes from the collegiate and major junior levels to the professional ranks, including the NHL, were energized by Farrell's technology. Members of the New England Patriots have also relied on Farrell's design for their protective needs.
In 2011, the professional Federal Hockey league contracted Farrell to serve as head coach for the Delaware Federals. Farrell made his professional playing debut in February, 2012, when the Federals called on him to play versus the Danbury Whalers. He registered an assist in the Federals victory.
The Berkshire Battalion are also pleased to announced that the following players have signed Professional Try Out (PTO) with the Battalion - Danie Palmkvist-Goaltender, Vadim Guskov-Forward and Springfield, MA Michael Knselowskas.
The Battalion will be opening their inaugural training camp on Saturday October 11th at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ice Rink in North Adams, MA.
