New Orleans VooDoo News Release

NEW ORLEANS (February 7, 2011) - The New Orleans VooDoo hired AFL Hall of Fame quarterback and longtime coach Ben Bennett as the team's offensive coordinator, announced the franchise on Monday afternoon.

"Ben is a proven offensive coordinator in the AFL, and adds a lot of experience to our staff," said head football coach Derek Stingley. "He brings a winning and successful track record to our organization, having won several AFL Championships as a player, and an AF2 Championship as a coach. We are excited to have him."

Bennett's most recent arena coaching experience came in the AF2 ranks with the Amarillo Dusters in 2009. Prior to that stop, Bennett coached the Manchester Wolves from 2005-08, compiling a 33-17 regular season record with all three campaigns ending in the AF2 playoffs.

Before Bennett got the gig with the Wolves, he served as the head coach for the Florida Firecats, guiding the franchise to two ArenaCups. Bennett's 2004 team won ArenaCup V, defeating Peoria 39-26 for the franchise's first and only league crown. In that season, Bennett's offense was the first in AFL and AF2 history to produce two 1,000 yard receivers and a 500-yard rusher.

The Firecats held a 29-19 regular season record with Bennett at the helm that included a 7-2 mark in postseason. Like his stint with the Wolves, all three seasons saw his teams go to the playoffs.

Bennett was with the Florida Bobcats in 2001, and got his first AFL coaching opportunity with the Milwaukee Mustangs in 1998. From 1999-to-2001, Bennett was the quarterbacks coach at Duke University. Bennett was a former Blue Devil himself, leaving the program in 1984 as the NCAA's all-time leader in pass completions (820), pass attempts (1,375) and passing yards (9,614).

Upon his graduation from Duke, Bennett owned 42 school records, 15 ACC records and seven NCAA benchmarks while playing under Steve Spurrier. The Sunnyvale, Calif. Native was an All-American quarterback for Peterson High School prior to committing to Duke.
