
Bells Swat Away BlueJackets

The Bells bats came alive for 13 hits on Saturday night, as they pounded the Kitsap BlueJackets by a score of 8-3. The Bells got things started quickly in the bottom of the first. Three straight singles from Andru Cardenas, Shane Hanon, and Chase Strumpf loaded the bases for the Bells. A double play allowed Cardenas to score, and Hanon scored on a wild pitch the next at bat. At the end of one the score was 2-0 Bells.
The Bells added a run in the second as well. Elijah Skipps walked with one out and Matt DiLeo followed him with a single to left to give the Bells runners on 1st and 2nd. Andru Cardenas then lined a double to right center to score Skipps, and the game would move to the third with the score at 3-0 Bells.
Kitsap struck for a run of their own in the 6th. Jack Stronach doubled to deep center to start things off for Kitsap, and after a back to back outs, a single and an error allowed Stronach to score from second, making the score 3-1 Bells.
The Bells decided to play add on in the bottom of the 6th. Elijah Skipps got things started with a one out walk, and a batter later Gunnar Schubert lined a double in the right center gap to score Skipps all the way from first. Andru Cardenas then stepped up and lined a double off of the wall in left to score Skipps and make the score 5-1 Bells heading to the 7th inning.
Kitsap struck back immediately in the 7th. Tony Ortiz started things with a single but a 6-3 double play put 2 outs on the board with nobody on. Things restarted with a walk to Benny Kaleiwahea and he scored on a triple off of the left field wall off the bat of Daniel Lopez. Lopez was then driven in by an infield single from Jack Stronach and the game went to the bottom of the 7th at 5-3 Bells.
But, the Bells put Kitsap away in the bottom of the 7th. Chase Strumpf started the inning with a walk and Jake Vieth and Danny Casals loaded the bases with 2 singles. Elijah Skipps was then hit by a pitch to score Strumpf for the first run of the inning. Gunnar Schubert then stepped up with the bases loaded and drove home Vieth and Casals with a line driver single to right center, and the Bells would carry their 8-3 lead to the end of the game.
Jon Olsen got the start for the Bells and was brilliant. He threw 6.2 innings, while allowing one unearned run on 5 hits and striking out 5 and also picked up the win on the evening.
Gunnar Schubert and Andru Cardenas were the hitting stars tonight for the Bells. Schubert was 2-3 with a double 3 RBI and a run scored. Cardenas was 3-5 with 2 doubles 2 RBI and a run scored.
The Bells take the field again Monday July 11th for a one game pit stop against the Kitsap BlueJackets at 6:35. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:05 on http://network1sports.com/station/bellinghambells with Tom Prizeman.
