September 27, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Bellingham Slam News Release
Bellingham , Wash. - The Bellingham Slam, playing their second season in the American Basketball Association, released the team's 2006-07 regular season schedule today. The schedule features 18 home games played at Whatcom Pavilion and 18 road games played against other ABA teams from around the country.
The Slam's training camp is scheduled to begin on November 1, with the team's first game coming on the road against an expansion team in Seattle on November 12.
The Slam will open their home schedule on November 16 with the first of back-to-back games against the Hollywood Fame. The Fame is owned by a group of Hollywood celebrities, including pop music singer Nick Lachey and former NBA player John Salley, who co-hosts Fox Sports' The Best Damn Sports Show Period. According to the Fame's website, the team's roster will feature several famous celebrity players.
In addition, the Slam's home schedule will once again feature games against Aoshen Olympian, a team from Beijing, China playing its season out of Los Angeles. Aoshen's roster features several NBA prospects who participated in the World Basketball Championships last month.
In total, the Slam's schedule includes four multi-game road trips, the longest being a six-game expedition in February to Virginia, Vermont and California. All but four of the Slam's road games will be outside of Washington state. At home, 13 games occur on weeknights and five fall on a Friday or Saturday. All Slam home games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
Following the regular season, the ABA will hold a 24-team playoff beginning in March, requiring 5 wins to capture the league championship. Last season, the Slam finished the regular season with a 18-14 record and won two playoff games, advancing to the quarterfinals of the ABA Championship Tournament.
Season ticket packages are currently on sale for the Slam, while single game tickets will go on sale on November 1. For more information, call the Slam at 734-SLAM or visit their website at www.bellinghamslam.com.
