Bees Win 2-1 Against The Bucks

Laredo, Texas - The Killer Bees extended their win streak to a season high four games with a 2-1 victory over the Southeast division leading Laredo Bucks Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center.

Bill Newson connected on the man-advantage with a wrist shot to give the Killer Bees a 1-0 lead at 11:41 in the opening period. The unassisted tally was the 10th of the season for the third-year Killer Bee. The penalty filled first period saw four power plays for each squad with RGV scoring the lone goal.

The middle period featured the Killer Bees out shooting the Bucks 10-6, and both goaltenders shutting out all attacks on net.

At 1:25 into the final frame Clay Plume fired a wrist shot past Laredo goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris to give RGV a two goal lead. Daymen Bencharski and Trevor Weisgerber had the helpers on the power play score.

James Hiebert spoiled the shutout bid for RGV goaltender Terry Dunbar with a power play goal at the 7:38 mark. Assists came from Serge Dube and Jeff Bes.

Dunbar recorded the win in net for the Killer Bees stopping 24 of the 25 Laredo's shots on net. The win is Dunbar's third of the season.

Grumet-Morris had the loss in net for the Bucks as he made 27 saves off of 29 RGV shots.

Rio Grande Valley (12-10-1, 25 pts.) will meet up again with Laredo (15-8-2, 32 pts.) Sunday at Dodge Arena at 6:00 p.m.
