Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 13-19TH
ROSTER ADJUSTMENTS MADE
The Killer Bees completed their exhibition season with a pair of one-goal road losses, losing 4-3 in Corpus Christi Friday night and 2-1 Saturday night in Laredo. They might be losses, but there were many bright spots for the Killer Bees. In Friday's contest in Corpus Christi, the Killer Bees had a 3-1 lead heading into the final period of play. Saturday, the Killer Bees outshot Laredo 27-15, but Laredo goaltender Marco Emond stopped 26 of 27 shots for the victory. The games proved to be valuable, as they did give Killer Bees Head Coach Tracy Egeland a chance to review his roster and make the appropriate roster changes needed to trim his 25-man training camp roster to 18 players. Today, Egeland placed goaltender Kevin Block, defensemen Ryan Howdle, Luke Spannbauer, and forwards Craig Bezjack, Craig Clare, Tim Jurejevic and Ryan Rutz on waivers. Bezjack was the only one of the bunch that contributed in the scoring statistics as he scored the Killer Bees first goal Friday night in Corpus Christi. EL CAPITAN
In hockey, each team has three individuals on the ice to serve as liaisons between the officials and the team and they are known as "Captains". Of the three, two serve as Assistant or Alternate Captains and they wear the "A" over the left chest of the jersey, and one serves as the Captain and wears the "C" over the left chest of the jersey. Not only does the team captain communicate with the officials over any penalties and discussions requiring a team representative, but he also serves as a vital leader in the dressing room and as a decision maker on team matters. Some teams have their head coach determine the team captain, but the Killer Bees conducted a team vote to determine theirs. Mike Rees was the leading vote getter and will serve as the first ever Killer Bees Team Captain Saturday night in San Angelo as the Bees open the season. The Bees will go with four assistant/alternate captains, as Kevin Mackie and Ryan Shmyr will serve the role at home and Andrew Taylor and Justin Van Parys will do the honors on the road. Goalies are unable to serve as captains.
BUZZING TO THE HOCKEY HALL OF FAME
Everybody has the thought or the goal that someday their name would be inside the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario. There actually will be one Killer Bees name heading to Toronto. In the season opener and the first ever Killer Bees game in franchise history Saturday night in San Angelo, the first goal scored by the Killer Bees will result in the puck and the stick used to score the goal sent directly to the Hockey Hall of Fame to be displayed. Other items will also be sent from the Killer Bees home opener on October 31st.
INTER NATIONAL BANK SEASON TICKET HOLDER'S PARTY AND MEDIA DAY SUNDAY
The Inter National Bank Season Ticket Holders Party, which was originally scheduled for October 12th, has been rescheduled at the Dodge Arena for this Sunday (October 19th) from 5-8pm. Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to pick up their season tickets and familiarize themselves with the Dodge Arena while also watching the Killer Bees go over a "Hockey 101" session. The Media Day event will begin at the arena promptly at 6 pm and will give media members an opportunity to understand gamenight protocol, take a tour of the Dodge Arena and meet the players and fans for any interviews.
