AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Beckett.com AFL Collectible Player of the Week

June 6, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

Bobby Sippio authored another improbable chapter to his rags-to-riches 2006 fairytale on Saturday during the American Conference Championship Game. The explosive OS - cut earlier this year from Tampa Bay despite leading the team in receiving at the time - caught seven passes for 78 yards and five touchdowns to lead the underdog Rush past the San Jose SaberCats (59-56) and into Sunday's ArenaBowl XX against Orlando.

For his performance, Sippio has been honored as Beckett.com's AFL Collectible Player of the Week, the fourth time this season he's won the award.

Sippio was responsible for Chicago's first touchdown against San Jose on Saturday afternoon and scored three of its final four as Chicago won its third consecutive road playoff game.

The 6-3, 220-pound Sippio - one of the AFL's most explosive young playmakers now in his third season - spent the first two years of his career with the Dallas Desperados before leaving prior to this season to sign with his home-state Storm. After an auspicious start in Tampa Bay, Sippio allegedly wore out his welcome and was sent packing after a Week 9 loss to Georgia. Chicago claimed him off waivers just days later and has been reaping the benefits ever since.

In five games with Chicago to end the regular season, Sippio caught 38 passes for 654 yards and 17 touchdowns, bringing his season totals to 93 catches, 1,320 yards and 35 touchdowns.

He's been every bit as productive in the playoffs (23 receptions, 342 yards, seven touchdowns) and now has Chicago on the cusp of its first ArenaBowl title in franchise history.
