Bears to host softball game for Domestic Violence Awareness

NEWARK, NJ - September 28, 2006 - The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club announced they will host "Let's Play Ball for Domestic Violence Awareness Day" on Sunday, October 22 at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium, featuring a softball game between the Newark Police Department and the Newark Fire Department. Tickets for the event cost $5, with all proceeds donated to Babyland Family Services Domestic Violence Shelter.

Gates to The Den will open at 11:00 am to pre-game festivities featuring live music and activities. The concourse will be displayed with informational tables including a silent witness exhibit and on-site counseling and legal advocacy. Special guest Mayor Corey Booker will be on hand along with Newark Municipal Council President Mildred Crump, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., and Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura. In addition, celebrity appearances include New Jersey Devils Alumni Ken Daneyko and Rob Skrlac will serve as the honorary team captains. The softball game's first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm. All fans in attendance will also have the opportunity to sign-up for tickets to the 2007 Opening Night Celebration.

"Let's Play Ball for Domestic Violence Awareness Day will be a special event," said Bears General Manager John Brandt. "We look forward to all our fans attending to help spread awareness of Domestic Violence, as well as cheer on Newark's Finest and Newark's Bravest.
