NEWARK, NJ - January 24, 2006 - For the second consecutive year, the Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club in conjunction with the Newark Public Schools Office of Teaching and Learning, will celebrate the honor roll students of the Newark Public Schools through the Newark Bears Scholarship Superstars Program. The Program was created to inspire today's young people to achieve academic excellence. The Bears will honor those students who achieve the honor roll for the 2005-2006 academic year on three game nights in the 2006 season.
The three games will be Friday, May 12 vs. the Atlantic City Surf, Friday, June 2 vs. the Lancaster Barnstormers, and Friday, June 16 vs. the Road Warriors. All games will feature a post-game fireworks spectacular. In addition, the Bears will recognize the students prior to each game for their achievement during the school year, and one student each night will be chosen randomly to be given the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
"We are excited to honor the students for their hard work during the school year," said Bears General Manager John Brandt. "It's a win-win situation for the students combining education and an entertaining reward."
