Newark Bears News Release

NEWARK, NJ - April 18, 2006 - The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club announced today they have signed former Houston Astros left-handed pitcher Jeriome Robertson to a contract for the 2006 season. This season will be Robertson's 11th in professional baseball, after being drafted in the 24th round of the 1995 draft by the Astros.

After appearing in Houston's minor league system for seven seasons, Robertson was called up to the big league club in 2002, appearing in 11 games. He began the 2003 campaign with Houston starting 31 of the 32 games he appeared in, posting a 15-9 record, striking out 99 batters.

While pitching for Jackson in the Texas League in 1999, Robertson posted a league leading 15 wins, and was third in the league with 133 strikeouts. Before being called up to the major leagues in 2002, he was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year, with a league leading 2.55 ERA, and was fourth in the league with 12 wins. He was rewarded with his successful season by pitching in the Pacific Coast League All-Star Game.

"We are excited to have Jeriome Robertson join the Newark Bears for the 2006 season," said Bears General Manager John Brandt. "Bringing the experience of being a 15-game winner in the major leagues will benefit the team on and off the field."

The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club will open the 2006 season with a home game on Friday, April 28 against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The Bears are once again offering a wide variety of ticket options for the 2006 season to meet the needs of their fans.
