Newark Bears News Release
NEWARK, NJ - March 19, 2007 - The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club announced they have signed catcher John Pachot to a contract for the 2007 season. Pachot, a 2006 Atlantic League All-Star, will join his teammates at spring training April 21 in Newark.
Last season with the Camden Riversharks, Pachot played in a career high 105 games, 90 as a catcher, batting .282 with 35 runs scored, 20 doubles, ten home runs, and 52 RBI. In addition to his selection for the AL All-Star Game, the native of Puerto Rico was named the post-season AL All-Star catcher.
Pachot will be entering his 15th professional season after he was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Montreal Expos in 1992. He has spent 13 seasons in affiliated ball including seven seasons at the triple-A level.
"We watched how John can excel at a high level last season," said Bears Assistant General Manager of Baseball Operations Jim Cerny. "He played many games and remained consistent throughout a long season. This season we look for his strong play to continue and his veteran leadership on and off the field."
The Newark Bears will begin their ninth season at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Tuesday, May 8 against the Bridgeport Bluefish. Fans attending all home games may park in the spacious parking garage located behind the wall in right field.
