DURHAM, NC - The Can-Am League announced that the contract of Newark Bears infielder Peter Fatse has been sold to the Baltimore Orioles. He becomes the first player from the league sold to a major league organization in 2012.
Fatse was selected by the Bears in the Pittsfield dispersal draft on October 14. With the Colonials in 2011, Fatse batted .279 with five home runs and 41 RBI. He also collected 70 hits, scored 43 runs and stole 17 bases.
The 24-year-old native of Hampden, MA was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 24th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft. He played two seasons in the Brewers farm system before signing with Pittsfield in 2011.
