(CALGARY) - On Monday, September 3rd the Calgary Stampeder Football Club and the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank will be joining forces for the 17th Annual "Be A Fan, Bring A Can". This event is spearheaded by Stampeder coaches and player's wives/girlfriends, who will be located at each of the entrance gates collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations.

In 2006 the annual food drive raised an impressive $29,561.30 in cash and food donations raising the 16 year total to over $323,881 in cash and food donations.

ABOUT THE CALGARY INTER-FAITH FOOD BANK

Clients

94,689 Calgarians came to the Calgary Food Bank last year.

42% of our clients are children.

10,908 clients were referred by partner agencies.

We provided 12,409 clients with referrals to over 100 community agencies.

Programs

Through the Hampers for the Homeless Program, 11,322 food hampers were distributed to those living with inadequate housing.

The Emergency Food Hamper Program distributed 36,322 food hampers (an average of 165 per day). 2,896 fruit and vegetable hampers were distributed.

Over 83% of clients receive an emergency food hamper three or fewer times per year.

2.6 million pounds of food was distributed through the Regional and National Bulk Food Program.

2.3 million pounds of food was distributed to more than 100 Calgary agencies through the BP Food Link Program.

46,996 litres of milk and 1,467 containers of infant formula were distributed through the Children's Milk Program to more than 500 homes. 125 children a week received fresh milk through the Children's Milk program.

Resources

The Calgary Food Bank raised $3.5 million in financial donations and $13 million in food donations to deliver quality emergency food to people in need.

For every $1 donated we access $4 worth of food.

We are not a government or United Way agency.

Approximately 2,000 food donations are picked up throughout the community each month.

Volunteers

80 - 100 people volunteer per day.

4,200 individual and group volunteers gave an incredible 95,800 hours.
