
Baysox Snag Late Win over Curve, 9-8

CURVE, Pa. - Chesapeake scored twice in the top of the ninth to earn a 9-8 win over the Curve in front of 7,375 fans on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Altoona banged out a season-high 17 hits in the defeat, led by multi-hit efforts from Will Taylor, Lonnie White Jr., Callan Moss, Titus Dumitru, Javier Rivas and Matt King. White Jr.'s go-ahead RBI triple in the eighth inning broke a 7-7 tie, however, the Baysox scored twice on an RBI groundout and a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth. Javier Rivas bounced into a game-ending double play with runners at first and second in the bottom of the ninth.
Taylor got the Curve offense started with an inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the first. Taylor scored the go-ahead run on White Jr.'s triple in the eighth. Rivas recorded his eighth home run of the season in the fourth inning as part of a three-run frame. Altoona has hit two home runs in a game 26 times this season, totaling 110 in 101 games this season.
White Jr. continued his hot stretch of hitting since the All-Star break with a pair of knocks, he's batting .388 in his last 13 games with 10 extra-base hits and a 1.323 OPS.
On the mound, Kyle Robinson lasted just three innings and departed after throwing 72 pitches. Cristhian Tortosa followed with three innings on the mound, and allowed two unearned runs, with four strikeouts to bridge the middle innings. Mike Walsh turned in one of his best outings of the season for the Curve, retiring six straight hitters across the seventh and eighth with one strikeout on just 19 pitches. Jake Shirk suffered the loss with two runs against him in the ninth.
Altoona wraps up their series with Chesapeake on Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. Altoona will send LHP Connor Oliver to the mound to face RHP Evan Yates for the Baysox.
