Charlotte Hounds News Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Charlotte Hounds on Saturday night fell 12-8 to the Chesapeake Bayhawks at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. It was the second consecutive loss for the Hounds, who never held a lead in the game. Bayhawks attack Joe Walters was named Coca-Cola Player of the Game following a five-point (3g, 2a) performance. Meanwhile, the Hounds were lead by Mike Chanenchuk with three points (1g, 2a).

The Hounds got off to a slow start offensively and were unable to find the back of the net early on. Chesapeake's Matt Danowski opened the scoring with 12:36 remaining in the first quarter. Matt Maloney struck again for the Bayhawks five minutes later, and Walters scored with under a minute to go in the first to give the home team a 3-0 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Hounds began showing signs of life early in the second quarter when John Haus found the net off a feed from Joey Sankey. Terry Kimener added his second goal of the season with an assist from Chanenchuk just 1:30 later to cut the Bayhawks lead to 3-2. Matt Mackrides restored Chesapeake's two-goal lead with 7:13 to go in the half. After some back and forth action, Haus launched a long-range bomb from just inside the 2-point line for his second of the night to make it 4-3 Bayhawks heading into the halftime break.

Dylan Donahue scored his first career MLL goal less than two minutes into the third quarter off a beautiful feed from Sankey to tie the game at 4. The tie lasted less than three minutes as Danowski and Brendan Mundorf scored back-to-back. Chanenchuk cut the lead to 6-5 with 8:29 to go in the quarter, but Danowski and Walters extended the Bayhawks' advantage with goals 40 seconds apart to finish the third quarter in front of the Hounds 8-5.

Greg Coholan added another goal to extend the home team's lead to 9-5 early in the fourth quarter. Stephen Keogh cut the deficit to 9-6 three minutes later. Mundorf and Joe McCallion traded goals midway through the final quarter to keep it a three-goal game. Walters and Mundorf each notched their third goals of the night to put the Hounds away late. Ryan Brown scored his first career MLL goal making the score 12-8 with 2:19 remaining in the game. But the Bayhawks' stellar defense squashed any late momentum from the Hounds and the home team was able close out the game.

Hounds goaltender Charlie Cipriano stopped 12 of 24 shots faced, while Bayhawks goalie Brian Phipps made 16 saves on 24 shots.

The Hounds (3-2) will return home next week to take on the Ohio Machine (4-2) on Thursday, June 9. Ohio will battle the Florida Launch on June 4th before making the trip to Charlotte. The game will mark the Hounds' first "Student Night," where all elementary through college students can purchase a game ticket for just $5.00. Students can show their school ID at the Box Office to receive the special rate, or purchase online using promo code SCHOOL. (All high school and college students who purchase online should be prepared to show ID at the gate). Faceoff between the Hounds and Machine is scheduled for 7:30pm at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
