New York Lizards News Release

Boston, MA - It was the Lyle Thompson show Saturday night on Long Island. The MLL veteran put up five goals in the Bayhawks 16-14 come from behind victory over the New York Lizards. Thompson added two assists on the night. The seven points in a game are the most points Thompson has scored in a game since scoring seven against the Rochester Rattlers in 2017.

Thompson's Head Coach Dave Cottle was thrilled with Thompson's performance telling the Capital Gazette, "Lyle Thompson was great as usual. I think he hit a couple pipes so he could have had even more goals."

The win was a team effort for the Bayhawks who got scoring contributions from eight different players. Nick Mariano registered a hat trick for the Bayhawks while, Colin Heacock, Matt Abbott, Steele Stanwick, Ryan Tucker, Kenny Massa, and Brendan Bomberry each found the back of the net once.

Goalie Niko Amato was really solid in goal for the Hawks making 15 saves on 29 Lizards shots.

The win means the Bayhawks are tied with the Boston Cannons at the top of the MLL standings at 2-0. The Bayhawks return to the field on June 29th for their home opener against the Atlanta Blaze.

Meanwhile, the Lizards are left shaking their heads following yet another loss. The Lizards sit at 0-3 on the season and need to turn things around quickly. Rob Pannell was good as usual. He put together a three goal and two assist performance to lead the Lizards. Justin Reh, Nick Aponte, and Gregory Puskuldjian put up multi-goal efforts. Mark Matthews and Kevin Crowley were kept relatively quiet scoring a goal apiece.

The Lizards will once again look to get into the win column this weekend as they travel to Boston to take on the Cannons. The Cannons sit at 2-0 with one of those wins coming against the Lizards on June 1st.
