Mobile BayBears News Release
MOBILE, Ala. - Ricardo Sosa's grand slam highlighted a six-run seventh inning as the BayBears rallied for their fourth consecutive victory with an 8-2 crushing of the Chattanooga Lookouts on Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Sosa's blast off Tim Corcoran (2-6) came just after the BayBears (45-38, 8-5) claimed the lead in the seventh when Cyle Hankered was hit by an 0-1 fastball with the bases loaded, breaking a 2-2 tie. Pedro Ciriaco's RBI single earlier in the frame evened the score while Sosa capped off the rally by making 7-2.
Chattanooga (36-46, 6-7) entered the seventh with the lead after scoring a pair in the fifth against Jarrod Parker. Parker had shut the Lookouts down on just two singles over his first four frames but allowed Gabriel Gutierrez to reach on a one-out double in the fifth. Gutierrez was singled home by Justin Sellers who took second on the throw home. Sellers came in on a two-out knock by Adam Godwin.
Parker gave way to Josh Ellis (3-1) as he was coming off a career-high seven-strikeout performance from his previous outing. Ellis kept the Lookouts right where they were with two scoreless frames and three punch outs.
The BayBears had the lead initially as they manufactured a run in the third. Chris Rahl singled with one away and advanced to third on the first of Ciriaco's four singles in the contest. Rahl scored on a grounder to second off the bat of Bryan Byrne.
After their six-run fireworks show in the seventh, the BayBears picked up another in the eighth as Ciriaco singled in Mark Hallberg who began the inning with a double against Javy Guerra. Scott Maine worked around a couple hits and a walk over his two scoreless innings to end the ballgame.
The BayBears battle the Lookouts in game two of their four-game set on Sunday night at 6:05 with Cody Evans (3-8, 4.80) getting the start. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
