Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â Duncan McAdoo pitched well enough to win Wednesday night but was out-dueled by Lookouts starter Steve Kelly as the BayBears lost to Chattanooga 3-1 in front of 2,386 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.
McAdoo (5-8) took the loss despite throwing eight strong innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out five batters. Kelly (3-2) was just a bit better as he matched McAdoo's eight innings giving up just one run on only four base hits wile striking out seven.
Edwin Encarnacion drove in the game's first run as he brought in Wilmy Caceres who had singled and stolen second earlier in the frame.
Chattanooga then scored an unearned run In the top of the second when shortstop J.J. Furmaniak was unable to handle Alejandro Diaz' grounder which allowed Dane Sardinha to score from third with two outs in the inning.
Following a single by Sardinha and a double by Jason Dellaero, Bryan Anderson drove in the Lookouts final run with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Sardinha. The next hitter, Diaz, lifted another fly to right and Dellaero tested the right arm of Vinnie Faison. Dellaero was met at the plate by BayBears catcher Humberto Quintero, ball in hand for the third out of the inning.
The BayBears scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Gerber doubled in Jake Gautreau from first with two outs. After a single by J.J. Furmaniak that put the tying runs on base, Danny Bravo took a called third strike and the threat was ended.
Furmaniak was the final base runner for the BayBears on the night as the final 16 Mobile batters were retired in order.
The BayBears will host the Lookouts in the finale of their four-game series Thursday night at 7:05. The game also marks the final game at Hank Aaron Stadium on the season. Chris Rojas (5-10) will get the start for Mobile against Ty Howington (0-2).
Once again, team autographed baseballs will be given away all night at The Hank to several lucky fans.
