
BayBears announce 2005 coaching staff

Mobile, AL-The Mobile BayBears 2005 coaching staff will feature some very familiar faces. Gary Jones will return for his second season at the helm of the BayBears, after leading the team to the Southern League Championship in 2004. Gary Lance will return for his third season as the BayBears pitching coach. Mike Davis is set to return as the BayBears hitting coach. Mike was with the BayBears in 2002 & 2003 and served as the hitting coach for Lake Elsinore during the 2004 season. 2003 Southern League Trainer of the Year Will Sinon will also return for his third season in Mobile.
Gary Jones will enter his 14th season as a Minor League Manager in 2005. Jones has compiled a record of 919-816 (.530) over his career. 2004 was the forth time that Jones has lead a team to a league title (1994, 1996, 1997, & 2004). He has guided his team to the playoffs six times and posted an impressive 23-10 (.697) post-season record. Gary has been selected as the League Manager of the year four times (1991, 1994, 1996, & 1997) and Minor League Manager of the Year in 1997. In 1998 Jones served as the third base coach for the Oakland A's.
Gary Lance returns for his second full season in 2004. Gary served as the BayBears pitching coach in all of 2004 and part of 2003. In 2003 he was promoted in the middle of the season from Lake Elsinore to fill the vacancy when Darren Balsley was promoted to the Major Leagues with the Padres. Lance has been a Minor League Pitching Coach since 1983. Gary has coached with several Minor League organizations including: San Diego, Montreal, Kansas City, Toronto, and New York (NL).
Mike Davis will rejoin the BayBears after a serving last season with the Padres Single-A affiliate in Lake Elsinore. Mike was the BayBears hitting coach in 2002 and 2003 and will fill the same role in 2005. Mike played a crucial part in one of the biggest moments in baseball history with the LA Dodgers in 1988. He drew a two-out ninth inning walk to allow Kirk Gibson to come to the plate and connect on his historic game-winning home run. Davis' teammates during his major league career included such stars as Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco and Ricky Henderson. His managers included Billy Martin, Tony LaRussa and Tommy Lasorda.
