New Bedford Bay Sox News Release

NEW BEDFORD, MA (Tuesday, February 7, 2012) - The Bay Sox will be returning to New Bedford this summer, and are in need of host families to house players who have come from all over the country to chase their dreams of becoming major leaguers.

This year, the Bay Sox organization is pleased to welcome Bob Quirk to the team as Host Family Coordinator for 2012. Quirk has hosted a player all three years the Bay Sox have been in New Bedford. He said he first got involved in the host family program because he thought it would be great to have his kids and grandkids supporting baseball in the community.

"It's been such a great experience," said Quirk, "We became really friendly with the players we've hosted. They're now like part of the family. We still text and keep in contact with all three of them. They call themselves my summer sons."

In addition to the rewards of forming a life-long relationship with a Bay Sox player, each host family will receive a special Host Family Package. The package will include season tickets and a Bay Sox T-shirt for each family member, a team photo, an invitation to selected Bay Sox special events, and on field recognition at the last home game with the player.

Unlike many other franchises, Bay Sox host families do not charge rent. The generosity of the host families is essential to the success of the Bay Sox franchise.

Host families are asked to provide a bed and some of the player's meals, along with bedding and linens (sheets, towels, and blanket). They are not responsible to provide accommodations for a player's friends or family, and are also not expected to provide transportation for any player's family or friends.

The New Bedford Bay Sox have played their last three seasons of summer baseball at Paul Walsh Field. The team is a part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League and will open their season at home on June 7 against the Laconia Muskrats.

For more information about becoming a host family, please contact Bob Quirk, Host Family Coordinator at 508-961-7224 or rbq52@comcast.net.
