New Bedford Bay Sox News Release
NEW BEDFORD, MA (January 30, 2015) - The New Bedford Bay Sox are pleased to announce that Southcoast schoolboy standout and ORR assistant coach Chris Cabe has been selected to join Manager Kyle Fernandes' staff as a coach of the Bay Sox for the 2015 season.
Chris is currently the Assistant Varsity Coach of the Old Rochester Regional Baseball team and has previously coached with the Wareham High Varsity Club. Chris was also a highly decorated college player, earning All-American status, receiving player of the year and rookie of the year honors during his Hall of Fame career at Colby-Sawyer College.
"Chris's love of the game makes him a natural choice for our team. His baseball resume speaks of his passion to teach and his willingness to pass his knowledge and skill to a new generation of ballplayers." said Bay Sox Director of Baseball Operations Michael Friar, who went on to note, "He's a tireless worker who will give his all to our program and our fans. We feel he will have our hitters prepared to face the rigors of the NECBL season. I have great confidence in Chris, and I know our hitters will be excited to work with him as well."
In addition to taking on duties as an on-field Coach, Chris will join Bay Sox GM Rick Avila in running the 3rd annual Bay Sox Pitchers & Catchers Clinics this winter. These wildly popular clinics afford position specific instruction for both pitchers and catchers ages 8-18. Local high school coaches have praised the clinics as a great way for high school pitchers and catchers to prepare for the season, given the short window of spring training. Registration is still open for this year's clinics. Those interested are encouraged to call Rick Avila at 508-989-2190
The 2015 New Bedford Bay Sox season will start at the beginning of June and extend into early August with the playoffs.
