Colorado Rapids News Release
THE IMPORTANCE OF STRIKING FIRST: Having the best defense in the league, as well as the most solid goalkeeper in Major League Soccer, gives your offense an edge, even if the goal production hasn't been the ideal one.
The Black and Blue have learned that striking first is lethal most of the times. The Rapids have compiled an 8-1-2 record when scoring the first goal of the game. On the flip side, their record when allowing the first goal is a less impressive 2-7-2.
THE END OF THE ROAD: Saturday night's match at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City against the Wizards will be the final regular season road contest of the year for the Rapids. In the previous eight seasons, the Rapids are 3-5 in their final road game of the season, with one of those games being played in K.C. On September 14, 2002, Zach Kingsley and John Spencer scored on either side of halftime for the Rapids in a 2-1 win over the Wizards.
BOUNCING BACK: The 6-1 loss to New England on Saturday night tied the Rapids' team record for the biggest defeat in team history and was one goal shy of tying the team record for the most goals conceded in a single game.
However, despite the loss, the Rapids have shown to be a club that is capable of bouncing back after a difficult defeat. This was just the sixth time in club history that the Rapids have lost by exactly five goals in a match. But the Rapids have rebounded incredibly well after those past defeats, compiling a 4-1 record while outscoring their opponents 10-5 with three of these four wins coming away from Colorado.
