Charleston Battery News Release

Charleston, SC- The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with forward, Aleksey Korol for the 2004 Season. A native of Ukraine, Korol, 5'10", 160 lbs., 26 yrs. spent the 2003 season with the A-League Pittsburgh Riverhounds scoring four goals and adding four assists in 23 games played.

Charleston Battery head coach, Chris Ramsey,

"Aleksey is a player with great potential, but he has been a bit unfortunate over the past few years with what can be looked upon as a stop-start career. I believe with a fresh start, he can prove to be a valuable asset."

Prior to joining the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Korol played three seasons with Major League Soccer's Dallas Burn and Chicago Fire. A fifth overall selection by the Burn in the 2000 MLS Super Draft, Korol set a team record for most points by a rookie with 13, on five goals and three assists. Korol played for Dallas for two seasons before joining the Chicago Fire in 2002.

A standout forward at Indiana University, Korol scored 57 goals and added 35 assists during his four year college career, becoming one of only 13 players in IU history to tally 100 career points. In his final two campaigns as a Hoosier Korol led IU to back-to-back NCAA Division I championships in 1998 and 1999.
