
Battery picks two in USL First Division Draft

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has selected College of Charleston senior Jeremy Gold and Marian College midfielder Ian Bennett in the USL First Division draft. Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser selected Bennett in the first round and Gold in the second.

"We have drafted two players that could have an impact for the Battery this season. Ian Bennett is a crafty and pacey winger who can also score goals. He comes from a small school in Indianapolis but we expect exciting things from him."
"Jeremy Gold has had much success at the College of Charleston and we hope that he can continue that success in the future as a few other Cougars have done in the past. We are looking for goal scorers and Jeremy has the potential to be a valuable resource in this category."
Ian Bennett
Midfielder Ian Bennett enjoyed an excellent four-year career at Marian College, IN. Bennett was a prolific goal scorer at Marian notching 49 goals and 19 assists in 45 games played (school records) and was named 2006 Mid-Central College Player of the Year. A quick winger Bennett is also a member of the Marian track team competing in the 100m, 200m, 4 x 100m relay & 4 x 400m relay.
Bennett, 5'9", 160, 23 yrs., played for the PDL, Palm Beach Pumas in 2006 scoring twice and adding 3 assists in 10 games played. A native of Hamilton, Ontario Bennett is majoring in Sports Management.
Jeremy Gold
Forward Jeremy Gold was a four year starter at the College of Charleston and ranks first all-time in assists (25), third all-time in points (91) and third all-time in goals (33). In 2006 Gold led the SoCon in points (29), and was named to the 2006 men's soccer All-SoCon First Team.
A native of Euless, TX, Gold 6'0", 194, 22 yrs., attended US Soccer's residency program at the IMG Academy in Bradenton FL, before joining the Cougars.
