Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, Md.- Delmarva starter Tim Bascom snapped out of a recent pitching slump and threw six scoreless innings as the Shorebirds defeated the Hagerstown Suns 8-1 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Bascom, who had allowed 16 earned runs combined in his last three starts, struck out seven and only allowed three hits to earn his third win of the year. Billy Rowell delivered the big hit in the eighth with a two-out grand slam to put the game out of reach and give the Shorebirds a 7-0 lead. Rowell was 2-for-5 while Miguel Abreu continued his hot hitting of late, going 3-for-5, including a solo homerun after Rowell's grand slam. Abreu is now batting .500 (11-for-22) with two homers and five RBI in his last five games. Danny Figueroa went 1-for-2 with three runs scored and three walks. He extended his on-base streak to 41 consecutive games.
Tomorrow's game is slated for 7:05 as the Shorebirds send lefty Wilfrido Perez to the mound. He will be opposed by another left-handed starter, Yunior Novoa, for Hagerstown.
