Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped game one of their five-game series against the Jackson Generals, falling by a score of 4-3 infront of 7,068 fans at Regions Field.
The Smokies took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Mickey Wiswall scoring Patrick Kivlehan. The run was the only blemish against starter Nick McCully who allowed six hits and struck out two over 6.1 IP.
The Barons tied the game at 1-1 in the third on a Chris Curley RBI single against starter Tyler Olson (2-2, 4.46).
The game remained tied until the ninth when the Generals plated three runs against reliever Cody Winiarski (0-2, 4.08) on an RBI double by Leon Landry and a two-run single by Jamal Austin to take a 4-1 lead.
The Barons mounted a rally in the 9th, getting a leadoff single by Chris Curley who scored on a double by Michael Earley. The double knocked Olson from the game, after allowing five hits over 8.0+ IP. Mayckol Guaipa relieved Olson and surrendered an RBI single to Rangel Ravelo, cutting the Generals lead to 4-3.
