
Bangor's Hammond and New Jersey's Myers named Northeast League players of the week

Durham, N.C. -- Bangor's Derry Hammond and New Jersey's Aaron Myers were selected by SportsTicker as the Northeast League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday, July 19. This marks the second time in four weeks Hammond has been selected and fourth honor garnered by a Lumberjack this year. For Myers, it's his first time chosen and third occasion a member of the Jackals has been picked.
Hammond, who won on June 28, had 11 hits in 25 at bats for a .440 average. Included in those 11 hits were one double and three home runs for a .840 slugging percentage. Hammond also drove in 10 runs and scored six times for Bangor. He is in his seventh year of professional baseball and first year with the Lumberjacks.
Myers went 2-0 last week with a 0.64 earned run average for the Jackals, who won five games in three days to capture the South Division title. In 14 innings of work, he gave up one run on 11 hits and struck out 18. Against Elmira on July 13, Myers tossed a complete game three-hit shut out of the Pioneers in game two of a doubleheader. He is now 4-1 on the season.
