Philadelphia Force News Release
Elgin, Illinois - Even with a one run lead going into the sixth, the Force could not hold on as the Chicago Bandits managed to battle their way to take the 2-1 win Saturday evening at the JU Sports Complex.
The loss dropped the Force's record to 1-3 overall, while the Bandits with help from ace righty Jennie Finch improved their record to 3-1.
Earning the Force's lone run of the evening was DeAnn Justice who hit a one run home run in the top of the fourth inning. The homer was Justice's second of the season, and was one of five hits on the night for the Force. Chicago put six hits on the scoreboard in Saturday's win.
Throwing all six innings for Philadelphia was the team's most recent addition Kristin Erb. The Lock Haven standout and multiple records holder recorded five strikeouts in her first professional start. For the Bandits, three pitchers stepped into the circle at JU Sports Complex.
Starting off Saturday's match-up was Eileen Canney. The righty threw four complete innings and surrendered just one run on four hits and fanned three Force batters.
Kristina Thorson relieved Canney in the fifth, and picked up one strikeout. Finch closed out the final two innings for the Bandits. The righty recorded three strikeouts and picked up her first win of the new season.
Following Justice's bomb to center field, the Force tried everything they could to put up another security run, but was unable to make anything happen.
In the sixth, pinch hitter Izmena Cabrera stepped into the batter's box with two outs on the scoreboard. The first year player connected on a fast ball and drove it deep into the outfield. The ball managed to get away from centerfielder Lillian Hammond allowing two runs to score.
Despite giving up the two runs, the Force managed to regroup and hold onto the one run deficit. Moving into the seventh, Finch made quick work of Philadelphia retired the first three batters in order to give her team the win.
The Force will close out their five game series with the Bandits tomorrow afternoon. Game time is set for 4:05 p.m. EST and can be viewed on line by going to http://www.philadelphiaforce.com/live.
