Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT - When the phrase "Friday Night Lights" is said, fans usually think of high school football thanks in large part to the success of the TV show that ran for five seasons on NBC or the movie that featured Billy Bob Thornton and country music superstar Tim McGraw. But now the Chicago Bandits are giving high school softball teams throughout the state a chance to compete under the lights at Rosemont Stadium this spring.
Beginning with two games on Friday, April 6 and continuing until the start of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) playoffs begin in May the Bandits will provide this unique opportunity.
"We are really excited about this opportunity," stated Bandits GM Aaron M. Moore. "This is going to give teams across the state a chance to play in one of the best venues around and will hopefully give the players something more to shoot for as they prepare for college and beyond."
Teams from all four classes of play (1A-4A) will have the chance to submit a registration form to the Bandits for the chance to play under the lights. If selected to play, each participating team will be required to sell a minimum of 150 $5 raffle tickets or pay a flat rate of $1,000. Prizes of the raffle will range from gift packages to cash.
The fee includes the PA Announcer, walk-up music, use of the scoreboard and videoboard, live audio streaming of the game and a press release after the game which will be sent out to local media members.
One of the games currently on the schedule will feature last year's 3A state champion Marengo and the third place finisher Glenbard South on April 20.
"This is something we were hoping to do this season," said Marengo Coach Dwain Nance. "These girls will relish the opportunity to play at Rosemont Stadium and to be able to take on such a well-coached opponent in Glenbard South. This could be a rematch for something later in the season."
Any high school team is eligible, but they must be able to move a previously scheduled game from their schedule to the stadium. The originally scheduled home team will also be responsible for the payment of game officials.
Rosemont Stadium opened in June 2011 and more than 30,000 fans made their way through the gates for various events. In December 2011, Rosemont Stadium was named the host of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Championship Series this August.
