Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Knighthawks dropped their home opener 14-9 tonight to their I-90 rivals the Buffalo Bandits at the Blue Cross Arena, ending their franchise-record 16-game winning streak. The loss spoiled the Knighthawks' home opener, which began with the raising of the 2007 National Lacrosse League championship and the displaying of the Champion's Cup.

Despite both Shawn Williams and John Grant tallying seven points for the Knighthawks, it was the Bandits' Roger Vyse's four goals and one assist that ended Rochester's four-game winning streak against Buffalo.

The Bandits (1-1) trailed 8-5 midway through the third but two short-handed goals allowed the Bandits to capture momentum and propel them to finish off their first win of the season with a 9-1 run.

The Knighthawks (1-1) started the game with a 3-0 lead only to lose it to four unanswered goals by Buffalo. Rochester battled back with three unanswered goals of its own to take a 6-4 halftime lead.

Rochester extended their lead to 7-4 with a Matt Lyons goal early in the third. However, Vyse took over the game with three goals and an assist in the games last 28 minutes.
