New York Lizards News Release

The Baltimore Bayhawks used a 10-1 run in the second and third quarter to establish a lead too large for the Lizards to overcome, as they cruised to a 21-15 victory in front of 3,639 fans at Mitchel Athletic Complex on Thursday evening. Tim Goettelmann had his best game of the season, racking up four goals and three assists, but it wasn't enough as the Bayhawks improved to 6-0, the best start in Major League Lacrosse history.

The Bayhawks nearly broke the league record for ground balls (70), scooping 67 to Long Island's 40. Tom Marechek was named Bud Light MVP, scoring three goals and two assists for Baltimore. David Curry (3 goals), Mark Frye (3 goals), Gavin Prout (2 goals, 2 assists), Gary Gait (2 goals, 1 assist) and Matt Alrich (two goals) also scored for Baltimore. Trevor Tierney recorded 16 saves in the victory. Mikey Powell was unavailable for Baltimore due to a concussion.

The Lizards led 9-8 with just under two minutes remaining in the first half after Tim Goettelmann scored two straight goals and Chris Cara followed it up with the first goal of his career. However, Baltimore scored six straight goals, and 10 of the next 11 to take a dominating 18-10 lead.

Jay Jalbert (3 goals), Chris Cara (2 goals, 1 assist) and Blake Miller (1 goal, 1 assist) also scored for Long Island. Greg Cattrano made 17 saves in the loss.

Tonight's game will be televised on ESPN2 on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 PM.

The Lizards will kick off a five-game road trip, visiting every team in the league before returning home on August 12th. The trip begins next Sunday, July 10th, when the Lizards have a rematch against the Bayhawks down in Baltimore.
