Baltimore Burn News Release
Jessup, MD â Members of the Baltimore Burn, Baltimore's only full-contact women's football team, took time out of their busy pre-season practice schedule Friday, March 21 to mentor "at risk youth" at the Waxters - Young Women's Correctional Facility in Jessup.
Players spoke to the girls and shared life lessons of hardships growing up. They also discussed what gave them courage to become female football players. "I work at this facility and I thought my team members interacted with the girls in a very positive way," explained Tanya Hill, Defensive Tackle for the Baltimore Burn and an Additions Counselor at the Waxters facility. "I think knowing that women can play football in a competitive league can inspire them to stay out of trouble. They know now that football is not just a man's sport, it is everyone's game," said Tanya.
Six members of the Baltimore Burn including Head Coach Adrian Mobley spoke to the group of thirty or more girls between the ages of 11 to 19. "Our goal has been and will always be to give back to the community," said Dawn Muscato, Co-Owner of the Burn and Left Guard for the team. "One of the best things about being a part of the Burn is the opportunity to be a role model for little girls. Tanya gave us a great chance to share our life and sports experiences with these young ladies."
