Baltimore Burn News Release

Glen Burnie, MD - The Baltimore Burn of the National Women's Football League (NWFL) will be playing a newly, realigned Mid-Atlantic Division in the 2003 season. The Tennessee Venom and the Asheville Assault have been moved to the Southern Division and three expansion teams, the Pittsburgh Passion, the Columbus Flames and the Erie (PA) Illusion, have been designated to take their place. The move by the NWFL is designed to reduce the amount of travel for all teams involved. The Burn's arch-rival, D.C. Divas will remain in the Mid-Atlantic Division with Baltimore.

In addition to the Mid-Atlantic Division, the entire NWFL has realigned with the addition of nine new teams for the 2003 season.

The Northern Conference consists of three divisions, the North Division, the aforementioned Mid-Atlantic Division and the Great Lakes Division. The Maine Freeze, Connecticut Crush, Mass Mutiny, Rochester Raptors and the Philadelphia Phoenix make up the North Division. The Great Lakes Division is made up of the Cleveland Fusion, Toledo Spitfire, Southwest Michigan Jaguars and teams in Detroit and South Bend (IND).

The Southern Conference is now made up of the South Division, Gulf Coast Division and Mid-West Division. Teams in the seven-member South Division include the Tennessee Venom, Asheville Assault, Chattanooga Locomotion, Knoxville Summit, Nashville Dream, Atlanta Leopards and Alabama Renegades. The Pensacola Power, Panama City Beach Rumble, New Orleans Spice and Biloxi Herricanes compose the Gulf Coast Division. The remaining teams, Kansas City Krunch, Junction City Calvary, St. Louis Slam and Oklahoma City Lightning are a part of the Mid-West Division.

After three rounds of playoffs, the champion from each conference will meet in the Championship Game on August 2, 2003.
