Baltimore Blast Struggles Early, Can't Comeback Against Milwaukee Wave
March 2, 2024 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) News Release
Milwaukee got off to a quick 2-0 start just under halfway through the quarter thanks to Marcio Leite's generosity. He had two assists on goals from Ben Ramin and Andre Hayne.
The Blast got on the board with a goal from Jesus Pacheco, but the Wave's Alex Sanchez responded with a goal from afar. Less than 30 seconds later, Milwaukee extended its lead after Stuart Grable cut into the middle of the field and scored from inside the box. His goal in the waning seconds of the first quarter gave Milwaukee a 4-1 lead headed to the second quarter.
After a five-goal first quarter, the second quarter was scoreless. The teams headed into halftime as Milwaukee held a 4-1 lead. Leite's two assists led all players with two points at halftime.
But the scoring drought didn't last long. Eleven seconds into the second half, Ian Bennett netted a goal to push Milwaukee's lead to 5-1. Once again, however, there was a long scoring drought. The teams ended the third quarter with Milwaukee ahead, 5-1.
Baltimore's defense locked in for most of the second half, even killing a penalty kick in the fourth quarter. However, shortly after the penalty save, Bennett scored his second goal of the night.
Bennett earned a hat trick after scoring on an empty net in the fourth quarter while Baltimore utilized a sixth attacker. The goal gave Milwaukee a 7-1 lead before the game ended.
