Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Niles, OH - Thursday night started off well for the Muckdogs, as they jumped to an early lead in the first. However, a 6 run 4th inning by the Scrappers and the inability to hit for the last 8 innings would do them in on this night.
Trailing 1-0, Mahoning Valley jumped all over starter Joe Diefenderfer in the 4th. Back-to-back home runs by Kevin Kouzmanoff and Ryan Goleski were later followed by a two-run single from Jose Colmenter. The inning was capped by a Brad Snyder 2-run double. Before the inning was done, Diefenderfer would exit having allowed 6 runs, 5 hits and 2 walks in the frame.
The Muckdogs would only manage 1 more run and 2 more hits following the first inning. Neither Muckdog run resulted from an RBI, but rather Mahoning Valley miscues that allowed runners to advance extra bases.
Scott Roehl (2-5) went 5 innings for the win, while Diefenderfer (4-6) took the loss.
Game 2 of the series takes place at 7:05 PM tonight The game can be heard live on 89.1 The Point starting at 6:50pm with Matt Ridley.
