Austin Aztex News Release

The Austin Aztex came out firing Wednesday night against the Miami FC Blues beating the Blues 3-1 at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The Aztex (5-1-2) took full advantage of the opportunities they were given in the first half and were able to come up with three goals.

Three goals is quite an impressive tally to have against a Miami (1-1-5) team, who had not given up more than one goal in a game all season. Austin accomplished this feat in the first half.

Austin kept pressure on the Miami backline all game long and even had chances late in the game to increase the Aztex league-leading goals tally, which now stands at an impressive 17 goals.

Miami pushed early in the second half but fell short. The Blues' only dangerous opportunity came on a Miguel Gallardo bobble half way through the second half.

Scoring in the first half certainly was not a problem for the Aztex in this game. Yordany Alvarez started the scoring with a long range blast from about 30 yards out in the 10th minute.

The next Aztex goal came in the 27th minute on a botched play from a Miami defender that resulted in an own goal. Lance Watson carried the ball wide down the right flank and whipped a ball into the near post, which was redirected by a Miami defender in the Miami net.

Miami cut the Aztex lead in the 39th minute with a goal from Brazilian midfielder Paulo Junior.

It didn't take long for the Aztex to answer as leading scorer Eddie Johnson was able to tuck one away at the 40-minute mark to give the Aztex the momentum heading into halftime.

With the win, the Aztex extended their lead in the league to five points over the current second place team, Tampa Bay.

The Aztex will be back in action Saturday against Crystal Palace Baltimore at 6 p.m. (CST). This will be the second time this season the two teams have met with the Aztex winning the first meeting 2-1 at House Park.
