June 21, 2010 - U.S. Soccer Federation D-2 (USSF D-2)
Austin Aztex News Release
The Arizona Sahuaros (USASA) are all that stand in the way of a third round Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matchup in Fullerton, Calif., with the MLS' Chivas USA next Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, the Aztex defeated the DFW Tornados (PDL), 3-0, at House Park in the first round of the nation-wide tournament, advancing to take on the amateur team Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at House Park.
Arizona defeated the Ventura County Fusion 4-2 on penalty kicks to reach this stage of the tournament, while the Aztex used two goals from forward Jamie Watson and one from defender Joey Worthen to put the Tornados to rest.
Austin then took a break from Open Cup action for a game and defeated the Miami FC Blues, 3-1. Max Griffin scored the first hat trick in Aztex history on assists from three different players to gain three more points and steer seven points clear of the rest of the league.
Following the match with the Sahuaros, Austin heads right back to league action in Miami for a rematch with the Blues on Saturday at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
