Published on June 9, 2005 under Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
LAS VEGAS, Nev. â Los Angeles Avengers WR/DB KEVIN INGRAM capped a stellar 2005 season by claiming the U.S. Army Ironman of the Year award on Thursday. The Arena Football League's top player award is presented annually to the AFL player who best exemplifies the "Ironman" concept of Arena Football by excelling on offense, defense and special teams.
Ingram posted an outstanding season in all phases of the game. He caught 88 passes for a team-leading 1,052 yards and 23 touchdowns on offense. He led the Avengers in several other categories, including all-purpose yards where he averaged 104.1 yards per game.
As a starting defensive back, he finished second on the Avengers in tackles with 68.0, while posting a team-leading six interceptions to go with six pass break-ups. He led the Avengers in both kickoff return yards (17.0 avg.) and missed field goal return yards (17.3 avg.) on special teams.
Last week, Ingram was named to the first units of the All-Arena and All-Ironman teams -- marking the second consecutive season he made both teams.
Ingram edged out Tampa Bay WR/LB LAWRENCE SAMUELS and Dallas WR/DB WILL PETTIS in voting for the award by head coaches, AFL Writers Association (AFLWA) and fans. Other players receiving first place votes included 2004 U.S. Army Ironman of the Year CORY FLEMING, Chicago WR/LB ETU MOLDEN, and Avengers WR/LB GREG HOPKINS.
Ingram joins Colorado OS DAMIAN HARRELL (Offensive Player of the Year), Los Angeles OL/DL SILAS DEMARY (ADT Defensive Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year), and Georgia head coach DOUG PLANK (Coach of the Year) as major award winners for the 2005 season. Those individuals, along with All-Arena, All-Ironman, All-Rookie teams, will be honored at the ADT ArenaBall Awards Show tonight at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel.
