Austin Nola Makes It to the Majors

June 16, 2019 - Prospect League (Prospect) - Danville Dans News Release

DANVILLE, IL - A.J. Nola received one of the best Father's Day presents a baseball dad could hope for. The Seattle Mariners called his son Austin Nola up from Triple-A Tacoma, and the 29-year-old former Dan got a single in his first MLB at bat and scored a run on Sunday. Austin Nola becomes the 28th Danville Dan to wear an MLB uniform.

Nola joins his younger brother in the Majors. Aaron Nola has pitched with the Phillies since 2015 and was an All-Star in 2018.

Austin Nola played college ball at LSU. He was on the 2009 Danville Dans roster in the first year of the Prospect League. The Miami Marlins selected him in the 5th Round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He is the second player from that 2009 team to make it to the big leagues - LSU teammate Mikie Mahtook is now with the Detroit Tigers.

Austin has anxiously awaited for the call to the show, playing in 773 minor league games since 2012 - including 327 games at Triple-A starting in 2015. He got his break when the Mariners traded Edwin Encarnacion to the Yankees. So far this year at Tacoma, he's hitting .327 with 15 doubles, seven home runs, 36 runs scored and 37 RBIs.

"It's always a big day when another Dan makes it to the Majors," said managing partner Jeanie Cooke. "It's a pleasure to see Austin finally get that chance to make an impact at that level. Once again, this demonstrates the background that these players get spending a summer in Danville playing baseball."

A founding member of the Prospect League, one of the premier summer college leagues, the Dans continue their 32nd season of wood-bat baseball this summer. More information about the Danville Dans, including upcoming home game schedule, is available online at
