Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas - Lyle Adams, a Jamaican-born defender who started all four years for Wake Forest University including the national championship team in 2007 and was drafted 26th overall by D.C. United in the 2009 draft, has signed with the Austin Aztex FC.

The 22-year-old, who grew up in Orlando where he was a three-time all-state player in high school, signed the two-year contract upon his return from a trip to Europe where he was on trial with teams in Austria, Switzerland and Belgium.

"The timing wasn't right over there. The transfer window is so small," Adams said. "Now, I'm really excited about the opportunity to be part of the Aztex organization for the first year. It's a good solid base of players and the common goal is establishing youth soccer throughout the year as well as developing players for the future."

The Wake Forest graduate, who earned a degree in economics, played the second most games in Wake Forest history (95) and started 91. Among those games, Adams played against his new Aztex teammates A.J. Godbolt (Maryland) and Zach Pope (Duke).

Like Pope, who signed with Austin last week, Adams has large expectations for his future with the Aztex and beyond. "Hopefully I gain valuable experience with the Aztex and we can win some silverware. I'm also hoping my experience will lead to other opportunities down the road, hopefully somewhere in Europe."

Head coach Adrian Heath said he believes the future is bright for Adams. "We're delighted to have acquired somebody who got selected in the 2nd round in the MLS draft. We watched him quite a lot at Wake. I feel barring any injuries, and with a little luck, which you always need to have some of that, I think he's got a great chance of developing into becoming a top-class professional football player."
