The Auburn Doubledays (2-1) swept a doubleheader against the Batavia Muckdogs (1-2) on Thursday June 21. In the first game, the Doubledays put up five runs in the bottom of the fifth and then four in the bottom of the seventh en route to an 11-6 victory.
In the first game, Nick Derba crushed his first home run of the season to tie the game at two and the Muckdogs rallied for five runs in the inning and took a 6-2 lead. Logan Collier could not hold on in the bottom half of the inning and the Doubledays batted around to take a 7-6 lead. Auburn's Cody Crowell got the win in relief while Brandon Garner took the loss for Batavia.
In Game two, Muckdog pitching combined for a no hitter through 6.1 innings. J.D Stambaugh started the game and went three innings. Clayton Long came in relief and threw two scoreless innings before handing the ball over to Josh Dew. Dew threw a perfect sixth inning but lost the no hitter when designated hitter Manuel Rodriguez singled up the middle with one out in the seventh. With two men on and two outs, Barron Frost stepped up to the plate and crushed a first pitch fastball over the left field fence for a walk-off three run home-run.
The Batavia Muckdogs will now travel to Mahoning Valley to take on the Scrappers for a weekend set. First pitch for Friday night is slated for 7:05; pre-game coverage will begin at 6:50 on 89.1 The Point.
