New York Lizards News Release

The Long Island Lizards added attackman Tom Kessler (Hofstra, 2002) and attackman Anthony Gilardi (Ohio State, 2004) to their active roster earlier this week. To make room on the 23-man roster, the Lizards moved defenseman David Kelly to the practice squad, and placed attackman Kevin Lowe on injured reserve.

Kessler was drafted in the first round of the 2002 draft (sixth overall) by the Baltimore Bayhawks. Kessler, a Hicksville native, led the Pride with 28 goals and 18 assists in his Senior season, and was named second-team All-American. Tom played two games for Baltimore in 2002 before being traded to the Barrage, where he made an instant impact. Tom was named Rookie of the Week for scoring four goals in his first game with the Barrage. Kessler finished his rookie season with 11 goals in 6 games, but saw limited action in 2003 and 2004.

Gilardi followed the same route as Ohio State teammate Shaun Lyons. Both Gilardi and Lyons went undrafted in the 2004 MLL Collegiate Draft, but were signed to the Lizards practice squad and worked their way into the lineup. Gilardi, who led the Buckeyes in points in his Senior season with 18 goals and 25 assists, now joins Lyons on the 23-man roster and the Baldwin native is expected to see action this weekend.

Kevin Lowe was placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL in the fourth quarter against the Philadelphia Barrage last Thursday. Lowe, who racked up an amazing six assists before suffering the injury, finishes the year with 21 assists in six games (currently second in the league), which accounted for more then a third of the Lizards 58 team assists.

"We're going to miss him, he was the quarterback of our offense," said Lizards Coach Vinnie Sombrotto. "He's unreplaceable, but we're going to have to make some adjustments and move on."
