ATLANTIC CITY, NJ- The Atlantic City Blackjacks announce that one player has been assigned to the team roster. Per League and team rules, terms are not disclosed. The free agency signing period for the Arena Football League began on Monday, March 4.
Wesley Mauia, Linebacker/Fullback
Mauia has played for his fair-share of professional indoor football teams. Originally from Stockton, California, Mauia attended Western New Mexico University. Following college, he signed with first professional team, the San Antonio Talons. He has played for various teams such as San Jose, New Orleans, Las Vegas and the Philadelphia Soul. In 2016 he won a championship with the Soul. Mauia spent 2017 playing with the Monterrey Steel of the NAL. He played for the Albany Empire, helping them to a successful season in 2018, rushing for 54 yards on eight attempts with his longest being 37 yards. He also pitched in on the defensive side of the ball with three tackles. For his career, Mauia has 42 tackles and 11.5 sacks with two forced fumbles and three fumbles recovered. The Blackjacks look to bolster their defense with this signing.
The Atlantic City Blackjacks' inaugural campaign will begin on the road on Saturday, April 27th against the three-time League champions, Philadelphia Soul, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Kickoff time will be announced at a later date. The Blackjacks will play their first ever home game at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, May 4 against the Columbus Destroyers. A team representative will contact those that have submitted a deposit within a week to select your specific seats, which will be done in order in which deposits were received.
