
Atlanta's Draft Selections from the 2019 MLL Collegiate Draft

The Atlanta Blaze drafted seven players Saturday at the 2019 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. The event, presented by Cascade, was held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina. "The 2019 MLL Collegiate Draft proved to be another exciting step for the Atlanta Blaze," says Vice President of Player Personnel, Spencer Ford. "Through countless hours of film, live scouting, and player comparison to our current roster, we were able to strengthen our overall team. Our goal from the beginning was to add more depth and size to both the defensive and midfield positions, and we accomplished that with the seven players chosen. The future in Atlanta is very bright, and we are excited to see Coach Banks and staff lead this team."
Here are our selections from this year's draft:
13th Overall Pick: Brendan Sunday, A, Towson
Brendan is the leading attackmen this year for a Towson program that ranked #1 in the polls for the first time in school history. Brendan is swift at 6'5" and can dodge with both hands. After being a rotational player his first 3 years, Brendan has become the focal point of the Tigers offense. In his first five games this year, he scored 17 goals, which was as many as he scored in his first three years combined. Through 6 games this year, he has compiled 19 goals, 12 assists, and a 35.2% shooting percentage. He was among the top 25 in goals, assists, and points through draft night. Brendan averaged 2.2 unassisted goals for his first 5 games this season. He is the all-time leading scorer at Arlington High School in New York with 249 goals. Brendan became the third Towson Tiger selected in the first 13 picks.
14th Overall Pick: Dylan Gaines, D, Denver
Dylan is the defensive leader for Denver that is 3rd in the country in points per game (8.00) and 1st in points per game (7.91) since the start of the 2018 season, as of draft night. Dylan was a USILA 3rd Team All-American, 1st Team All-Big East, and Big East Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. Dylan led Denver in caused turnovers in 2017 and 2018, and as of draft night, is leading Denver in caused turnovers this season. In high school, he helped lead Boys' Latin to the MIAA Championship in 2014.
26th Overall Pick: Colton Jackson, M, Denver
Colton has been a staple of the Denver offense his entire college career. Colton is a righty who is crafty, excellent from range, and has one of the most accurate shots in the country. Colton was an Honorable Mention All-American and 1st Team All-Big East in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, Colton was the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Elite 90 Award Recipient. He has 71 goals, 26 assists, and a 36.6% shooting percentage in his college career, as of draft night. Colton was also a 2015 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American out of Colorado.
39th Overall Pick: Brett Craig, LSM, Seton Hill
Standing at 6'6" and weighing 245lbs, Brett towers over and intimidates nearly every player he is guarding. The 3rd Team Division II All-American 2017 and 2018 was tied for 2nd in Division II in Caused Turnovers with 42 in the 2018 season. Brett was the GMAC Specialist of the Year in 2018 and was named 1st Team All-GMAC in 2017 and 2018. At pick #39, Brett became the 1st non-Division I player taken in this year's draft.
*Johnny Kelly was traded to Charlotte for the 41st overall pick in the 2019 MLL Collegiate Draft shortly before the draft began.
41st Overall Pick: Tyson Gibson, M, Robert Morris
Tyson is a competitor, leader, and the heartbeat of the Robert Morris program. Tyson was 1st Team All-NEC in 2017 and 2018. He was 17th in points in the 2018 Western Lacrosse Association regular season and 5th in the 2018 Western Lacrosse Association Playoffs. In high school, Tyson was a two-year captain and 2014 CISAA Champion at St. Michael's College School in Toronto, Ontario.
49th Overall Pick: Eddie Bouhall, D, Lehigh
Eddie is Lehigh's dominant shutdown close defender. Eddie was 2nd Team All-Patriot League in 2017 and 2018. He was able to crack the Top 40 in caused turnovers in 2017, which he followed up with being Top 20 in caused turnovers in 2018. Eddie was a 2-time Under Armour All-American in 2014 and 2015 at Lynbrook High School in New York.
58th Overall Pick: Jake McCulloch, M, Cornell
Jake is a dynamic athlete playing on a high-powered Cornell offense. Jake was named 2nd Team All-Ivy League in 2018. He can play both offense and defense and is a tough cover for any defender. Jake was also U.S. Lacrosse and Under Armour All-American at Ward Melville High School in New York.
