Atlanta Xplosion News Release

In a repeat performance, the 2003 Atlanta Xplosion left Orlando seeing "Starz" once again with a BOOM-ing 39-0 road win last Saturday evening in Orlando, FL.

The Xplosion (5-1) compiled almost 375 total yards of offense, while the defense pitched a shut-out and forced 4 turnovers. For the second time this season, the defense held Orlando (0-7) to just 56 yards of offense. At the half, Atlanta lead 14-0 while controlling the ball for almost 20 minutes before erupting with another 13points in the 3rd quarter and 12 more points in the 4th!

In the second half, Atlanta lowered the BOOM with quick strikes on its first two series, and forcing two turnovers- placing the game out of reach. Unlike the aerial assault in the initial meeting between these two teams, Atlanta got it done on the ground this time.

Running backs Charmaine Chin (7carries 154yds), Jerolyn "Jay" Smith (5 carries 112yds), and D'Lon "Diesel" Herbert (12carries 58yds) fueled the offensive XPLOSION with Chin and Smith going over the century mark in the game. Chin and Herbert both scored twice in the contest, while Smith added a 75-yard TD burst from scrimmage that left Orlando defenders in the dust. Captain Sue "Clink" Cackowski connected with wide receiver Natasha "Skyy" Slan for a beautiful 17-yard pass for six as well. The offensive line had arguably their best performance of the season clearing lanes for the running game and not allowing a single sack all contest long.

And then you've got that ATL "Darkside" Defense. Wanna talk throwback football? Try these numbers on for size: 4 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 8 tackles for loss, 4 passes defended, and 2 sacks. Captain Dee "Hawaii" Ember lead the dominating performance with 6 tackles, 1 sack, and the "pancake of the day". Pressure from Defensive Ends Denise "Farah" Beniamino and Jeanice "Chosen" Bailey kept Orlando's backfield bottled up and backed up. Interceptions by Captain Kiwanii "KK" Gibson (1st), DB Charlene Chin (2nd) and DB Christy "Thack" Thacker (1st) closed out the lopsided performance.

For the fourth road game of the season, Atlanta's loyal fans brought as many people as the home team and BOOM-ed our team on for the entire game - WE LOVE YOU ALL !! Coach Dawson added "We came out to do two things today: Execute and Have Fun - 'nuff said. When you've got the best coordinators a head coach could ask for, ladies that are the epitome of a class act, and THE #1 FANS in the Division - good things happen - and happen often."

Your 2003 Xplosion now return to HOTlanta for a four-game home stand the entire month of June (7th, 14th, 21st, 29th) . The Jump Off ! begins this Saturday night at Clark Atlanta's Panther Stadium against the WFL's Fayetteville Thunder - Kickoff is at 5pm.
