Atlanta Xplosion News Release
Your IWFL Atlanta Xplosion doused the WFL's Tennessee Heat 35-6 last Saturday evening in Hermitage, TN by scoring four times in the 1st half and not allowing any positive yardage in the 2nd half. With the win, Atlanta improves to 4-1 overall and an impressive 2-1 on the road.
The Xplosion's "Darkside" defense awakened from an early Tennessee score to snuff out any and every effort to move the ball. The unit forced 5 turnovers (3 INTs, 1 fumble rec, 1 safety) and amassed 10+ tackles for a loss during the game. Tennessee was forced to use 3 different quarterbacks in the contest, and Atlanta's pass rush lowered the BOOM to the tune of 11 QB hurries and 3 sacks. Defensive Ends Jeanice "Chosen" Bailey (4 hits- 3 solo) and Celeste "Haley" Rausch (3 hits- 2 solo- 1 safety) left the opposition few ground options, while the secondary and linebacking corps ruled the passing lanes. Atlanta totaled 10 passes defended, and interceptions by free safety Mary Kay "Primetime" Bateman (5th of the season), linebacker Carlissa "C-Murda" Lawson (2nd), and cornerback Charlene Chin (1st) diminished any hopes of Tennessee getting back into the contest.
In the 1st half, Atlanta scored- and scored often. Over the first two quarters, the Xplosion "Bombsquad" offensive unit placed three quick-strike touchdowns on the board- along with Rausch's safety. Each successful possession was no longer than 2 minutes in length! At the half, Atlanta was out to a comfortable 29-6 margin. Running back Charmaine Chin cooled off the Heat and left the audience in awe with yet another amazing day- 6 carries for 164 yards and 4 scores- averaging an unbelievable 27.3 yards per carry! To date, "Maine" has XPLODED past the opposition for a breath-taking 662 yards on the ground!! With 7 games still remaining, Chin is on pace to rush for almost 1,600 yards in a single season!!
"When you see a team strike early and often the way we did in that first half, it opens up playing time for your teammates to develop your depth", commented Head Coach M.G. Dawson. "The coordinators can take the time to really evaluate things- we've still got over half our schedule ahead of us." Finishing out the early road game-heavy portion of their 2003 schedule, the Xplosion next travel to Orlando, FL to face the Orlando Starz (0-6) on May 31st.
