Topeka Pilots News Release
The Topeka RoadRunners (NAHL) announced they have signed forward Philip Pugliese to a tender for the 2016-17 season.
Pugliese, a 6'0" 180 pounder from Trenton, MI played the 2015-16 season in the NA3HL with the Atlanta Capitals, Topeka's affiliate club. In the regular season, he finished fourth on the team in scoring with 57 points (19 goals, 38 assists). In the playoffs, he contributed 2 goals and an assist in three games. At the league's Top Prospects Tournament, he attracted considerable attention with 7 points in three games (3g, 4a). His head coach in Atlanta, Anthony Bohn said, ""Phil is a highly skilled, energy forward. He's a good teammate who's always going to come to the rink ready to work and do it with a smile."Â Bohn went on to add, ""He was a go to guy for us this season. Phil has grown into an elite player at this level. His development path and attitude will soon be able to bring that to Topeka".
For the Topeka RoadRunners, Head Coach Josh Kamrass has been aware of Pugliese for some time. "Phil is a hard working forward who has good speed, and playmaking ability", Kamrass said. "He came to our tryout camp last season as a free agent and impressed the entire staff. He earned a spot on the Atlanta Capitals NA3HL team, where we closely tracked his progress throughout the year." Kamrass added, "He has developed nicely into a 200-ft player and competes extremely hard at both ends of the ice. We are excited to see him come in and compete for a spot this off-season."
Pugliese played high school hockey in Trenton, MI, along with current RoadRunner Quinn Preston and another recently announced tender, Brandon Morgan. Pugliese and Preston were each named to the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association All-State Division 2 first team and Morgan was named to the second team.
