Atlanta Blaze News Release

KENNESAW-The Atlanta Blaze have scheduled a pre-season scrimmage prior to the start of the 2017 season against the Kennesaw State University men's lacrosse team. The scrimmage will take place on April 8, 2017 at 5:00pm on The Owl's Nest at Kennesaw State University and will be free and open to the public.

The scrimmage will conclude two weekends of Blaze training camp, and will provide Blaze fans the chance to get up close to the team in advance of the season opener on April 22nd.

The Blaze are partnering with Shootout for Soldiers, a nonprofit organization that seeks to use lacrosse as a mechanism for raising money in support of American veterans. The Shootout for Soldiers organization began in 2012 but has since spread to cities coast to coast, including Atlanta.

Shootout for Soldiers-Atlanta Organizer and former U.S. Marine Brett Stevens commented that, "We are very excited to host Shootout for Soldiers here in the sunny south, it's a real privilege for the community to be able to give back through the sport of lacrosse."

"We are thankful for all the support that the Atlanta Blaze has given the Shootout. They continue to be a great partner and we look forward to working with them this spring on the 2017 Shootout for Soldiers event." continued Stevens.

The Atlanta Blaze is also very proud to partner with the KSU men's lacrosse team to raise awareness for the Shootout for Soldiers cause. General Manager Spencer Ford noted, "Lacrosse is a very tight knit group of people who care a great deal about one another, as well as our soldiers, who risk their lives everyday so we can play the game. Any time an opportunity comes up to work with such a great organization such as Shootout For Soldiers, we [The Blaze] will jump on it immediately."

"With a mission to use lacrosse as a platform to support our Vets, the Blaze couldn't be happier about our event on April 8th. It will be a great night with lacrosse and the Atlanta community under the lights at KSU." Ford continued.

While the scrimmage will be free to the public, fans will be able to make a donation to Shootout for Soldiers as well as get more information about their Atlanta tournament being held May 20-21.
