Atlanta Blaze News Release

Kennesaw, GA - This Saturday April 28 at 7:30 p.m., the Atlanta Blaze will take on the Boston Cannons in a home contest at Fifth Third Bank Stadium. Both teams will seek their first win of the season.

In the April 22 season opener, the Blaze fell behind early in the first quarter to the visiting Florida Launch, and despite subsequent quarters in which they played well, the Launch claimed victory. Midfielder Deemer Class led the team with 5 points, while goalie Adam Ghitelman limited Florida to just six goals after the opening stanza. Faceoff specialist Brent Hiken won 16-of-26 faceoffs in the 13-10 loss. Boston was defeated 25-7 in its season opener by the Charlotte Hounds. Charlotte set a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) record for margin of victory.

Atlanta and Boston have a long history, most notably with the Blaze taking captain Scott Ratliff in the 2016 expansion draft. Fellow LSM James Fahey was acquired from the Cannons less than 24 hours before the final game of the 2017 season, though he was unable to compete due to an injury. This will be the first time he faces his former team. Boston midfielder James Pannell is in a similar situation as he was traded to Boston from Atlanta in exchange for draft picks.

The teams have met four times over the past two years and their record is split 2-2. In 2016 Boston swept the Blaze, and in 2017 Atlanta did the same. Players to watch in this game include Tommy Palasek and Matt Gibson, newcomers to the Blaze who will aim to bolster the Blaze offense with newly introduced chemistry.

All Atlanta Blaze home games are played at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA. Single-game tickets are on sale now at AtlantaBlaze.com/Tickets
