Greeneville Astros News Release

GREENEVILLE, TN - Greeneville Astros left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez has been named the Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week by MiLB.com for the week of June 27-July 3. During his start on July 2 against the Kingsport Mets, Valdez (1-0) had a no-hitter through five and two-thirds innings and earned the win after finishing six complete innings while allowing just one hit and picking up eight strikeouts.

The honor for Valdez marks the eleventh time in club history the Astros have earned league pitcher of the week honors. Before Valdez, the last time the Astros had a pitcher of the week was when Andrew Thome received the award for the week of August 24-30 during the 2015 season. Thome was one of two Astros pitchers to receive the recognition last season as Ryan Deemes also accomplished the feat for the week of July 20-26.

Valdez was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2015. He arrived in Greeneville and appeared on the Opening Day roster following a brief one-game stint with the class Short-Season A Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League.

Since his arrival in Greeneville, Valdez has appeared in two games. Aside from his start on July 2, the 22-year-old also made a start at Bristol on June 26. He has pitched a total of 10.2 innings and surrendered two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out 15 opposing batters.

The Greeneville Astros are the Appalachian League affiliate of the Houston Astros. For more information, visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
